Learning at Home

27.11.2020 (Nursery and Reception): Children have been sent home with a set of Number (digit) Flashcards, in their bookbags. These will be either 0 to 5 (Nursery), 0 to 10 (Reception) or 0 to 20 (Reception). Please spend five minutes every day practising these with your child. For Reception children it can be the Number (digit) Flashcards or the Phase 2 Phonics Flashcards daily. It could be as simple as showing your child a Flashcard and asking them to say the number that they see or laying the Flashcards out on the table randomly and asking them to put them in order from smallest to biggest. Variations of this could be; can you say the number that is 1 more or 1 less or if you cover up the digits can they still recognise the number from the Numicon, number of fingers or dice pattern.

Please note any comments/queries e.g. any numbers that your child struggles with or when they have a 'wow' moment and start recognising a number consistently in their Reading Record.

13.11.2020 (Nursery and Reception): The below letter (separate letter for Nursery and Reception) and a piece of A4 yellow card with 4 stars printed on them is in the children's Bookbag. It would be lovely to have 1 of the stars filled out over the weekend.

06.11.2020 (Reception): Children have been sent home with a set of Phase 2 Phonics Flashcards, in their Bookbags. Please spend 5 minutes every day practising these with your child. It could be as simple as showing your child a Flashcard and asking them to say the sound (phoneme) and/or asking them to say the name of the letter (grapheme). Variations of this could be; can you think of a word that starts with this sound (just be careful that it is the sound not just the letter e.g. chick starts with a ch sound not a c sound) or lay the Flashcards out and ask your child to point to a particular sound. There is a link to a video where a woman pronounces each sound correctly and another video with the actions for each sound to help if you or your child gets stuck. The link is 'Useful Information' which is under the photo of Mrs Hughes and myself on the Ruby Class webpage.

The order that we teach Phase 2 Phonics is: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, e, u, r, h, b, f and l.

Please note any comments/queries e.g. sounds your child is struggling with or when they have a 'wow' moment and start recognising a sound consistently in their Reading Records.
